Ah, the difference a fortnight makes! I am in awe of my Mother peeps, she is officially the best mum in the world. Every day I come home from work to find more stuff done, and it's fabulous (not least because all I've had to do is push paper around!).
If you follow me on any of the social media sites I ... well, frequent is the wrong word because I'm a sporadic poster at best, particularly at the moment as I juggle two jobs (with a third to be added come March), but you would have seen a delightful Instagram pic of the wolf lying on his bed, cushioned on freshly laid laminate wood flooring. Huzzah! No more concrete floor! No more cold and black feet!
Mum started in the lounge, finished in there in a day and was anxiously waiting by the phone to hear my reaction once I got home from work. I was driving everyone at work insane, bouncing excitedly, and got home to see ... the below.

That is all the furniture I had left downstairs, cunningly arranged to fit in the smallest room. I'm not sure how she did it, but she's amazing at packing a suitcase too. Unfortunately, it meant all I could see of the floor was the scant half metre just inside the doorway. Thankfully, the next day she did the dining room, so I actually got to see what it looked like!
I got to enjoy that for a few days whilst she painted. Yes, one room is officially completely painted! Unfortunately, that then meant I got this:
All the furniture is now stacked in my dining room, although my dresser and desk are back in situ unfortunately I'm still working off the (too high) kitchen work surfaces until the weekend. Oh my, the weekend. Do I have plans or what?! Everything, theoretically, should be painted downstairs by the end of tomorrow and my furniture will be back. Which means I can get on with sorting and adding personal touches. Shelves, lights and rails will probably not go up until next week, so boxes will abound for a little while longer but that I can live with.
Oh! And the chimney (not that one, the other one) is now also fixed. Apparently it had no flashing (I believe that's the lead stuff around the bottom that stops water from leaking in to the roof/house), which will explain the ridiculous amounts of water literally running down the chimney stack in the loft! And apparently the bricks were so badly in need of maintenance that the whole thing pretty much just lifted off the roof. I believe they were only here for around two hours. Job done. But part of the cheapness was because they didn't bring a skip, so I got left with:
That there is the entirety of my back garden. Pitiful huh?
Erm ... anyone have any good ideas on what I can do with a tonne of red bricks?
I think there are places for brick recycling if not I bet there are people on Frecycle who would come and take them away.
Good point! I had thought to make a path out of them (don't think I have enough) or raised planters (not enough room) so I think I may end up having to get rid of them :(
penny for your thoughts ...
