We began with the bathroom, because personal hygiene is actually a concern of mine despite what the photos that follow may suggest. My bathroom was originally a bedroom that had been turned into a large room with a bath, sink and shower stall, and a separate, much smaller room that had only a toilet and a sink. Interestingly, both rooms had windows, if you can call the teeny tiny piece of glass in the toilet a window. Mum pointed out that if we moved the dividing wall to the other side of the shower, we'd have a single bedroom and a small family bathroom. Plan! I've drawn out some (very bad and not in scale) blueprints of the two rooms to show you how it looked/looks.
Dotted lines signify the previous layout so you can see the changes we've made. I haven't managed to dig out any of the untouched before pictures (assuming they didn't get lost in the big laptop debacle of 2012) but the following should give you some idea of how it used to look if you imagine bright pink wallpaper with white flowers on the walls. Apologies for the quality, my camera/phone plus Welsh sunlight does not a good photo take.

The final picture shows the new wall (on the left) and the remains of the old wall (wood on the floor) and the shower. In an effort to conserve money and be a bit clever, that shower has remained as is now over the new bath. The entire avocado suite has been replaced with an old style white suite from B&Q and looks approximately six billion times better, particularly after my Mum and I tiled. Not well, I'll admit, especially given how not straight the walls are, but tiled we did.
We've (I say we, I mean Mum) also begun stripping the staircase of approximately 40 years of gloss and nicotine, we've (I say we, I mean my Stepdad) painted the ceiling and coving in the bathroom and we've (I say we, I mean me) painted two of the four bathroom walls antique white to match the ceiling and coving. It. Looks. Awesome. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture yet to show you. I do have progress shots though, and gratuitous covered in paint shots.

* Admittedly, I have to keep telling myself that or I'll probably start crying. A whole house? All at once? Definition of insane, right there peeps.

Wow, you have been super busy!! I cannot wait to see the result though- I know it will be stunning. Xx
Wow! You are rolling along! Wallpaper in the bathroom? Ugh. Looking forward to seeing your progress.
Check you and your bad self out! You are kicking serious house butt. And many frowns to the jerks who ninjaed your ladder >:|
I'm on a strict schedule set by Mum, with homework for after they leave every day. We're on a mission DC, a mission! You won't recognise the place once we're done! xx
Not just wallpaper Sarah, carpet too. Seriously. Who does that? So excited to show everyone the progress we're making, makes it feel a little bit more real!
Haha, thanks! Yeah, they nicked a load of stuff from the garden, although thankfully they didn't make off with the iron gate as well ... possibly because they know I've got the wolf and were worried he'd chase them or something ;)
Oh, Tors. Your house posts are making me so jealous! Boo to renting and boo to a non-period property!
Seriously, I will have to live out my renovation dreams through you so please keep these posts coming!
I'm holding on by a thin thread, the vision of what it will hopefully look like when all finished and dressed, and comments like these ;)
What a project! We renovated our first house, gutted it down to the studs, and there were plenty of sweat and tears put into it by the time we were done. But hang in there and don't lose sight of your vision...it'll be so worth it in the end :)
Oh there's definitely been sweat and tears here too! I've pulled down walls, built walls and, thankfully, am now on the home stretch of decoration. That vision is all I've got at the moment, but nice to know it'll be worth it when (if? when?) I get there!
penny for your thoughts ...
