Well, post number two for this month has also fallen by the wayside which is a shame because I was really looking forward to introducing a new series. So if anyone knows of an illustrator looking for exposure who's willing to draw a couple of pictures a month for me and my blog then please do get in touch!
Plan B is to reveal that I'm planning on chopping all my hair off again. It was almost a year ago that I
cut off approximately a foot of hair to give me a shorter look that I could roll and learn to style. I haven't seen a hairdresser since and my hair is now about four inches longer (hitting around armpit level), but I've been thinking about going back to shorter hair again for a while.
I've also been pondering the pixie cut. In the late 90's I took a leaf out of Winona Ryder's book and chopped my hair down to around half an inch all over, but my overall memory of that time is that I felt I looked like a boy. My clothing style was very much large jumpers and baggy jeans, the lack of femininity wouldn't have helped, but I did end up keeping it for some time even so. In the intervening years since I've toyed with the idea of doing it again, the freedom and the ease was intoxicating! But the fear of looking like a boy again has held me back.
With the fairly recent discovery that my hair isn't straight, a stronger sense of the types of clothes I want to wear and a
very quick and easy make-up routine, the fear of looking like a boy isn't as strong, although is still a valid concern of mine. But I've never been afraid to chop my hair off (it'll grow back afterall) so I'm going to go for it as soon as I have enough money to pay the salon (jeez, how much is a haircut nowadays?!). My inspiration?
Audrey Tautou.
I wear my hair up all the time. Like, all the time. I hate that it goes frizzy, I hate that it's too long to stick in curlers. I hate that I don't wear it down because I don't know how to style it and don't have the time/patience to learn (currently, and mostly that's down to house renovation). Short is better than up, will be quicker to dry and easier to style. Plus, it's something a little bit different, and I'm a lover of that.
Interestingly, I'm not expecting her haircut to make me look like her, which makes for a rather novel change. I'm hoping it'll force me into more feminine clothing choices, already on the way in. I'm focusing on
prettier tops, I want to feel more comfortable wearing the
types of dresses I love. At the moment, with the disparity between my apparent age and my actual age, I spend most of my time thinking I look around 12. Dressing in the types of dresses I love I'm petrified that I'll look even younger and given I'm now closer to 40 than I am to 30 I'm really over that idea. Perhaps a crop cut will help me look closer to my age. Perhaps it'll be just the juxtaposition I need in order to feel comfortable wearing those dresses. Perhaps not. But I'm gonna give it a go and see. Afterall, if I don't like it, this time next year I'll have longer hair again and can try something else.

Whaddya think? Will it suit me? I don't exactly have the cheek bones to pull this style off as well as Audrey, but I think I've got the curl and sass to at least pull off that bottom right pic.

I'm sure you'll look fabulous with a pixie haircut! But I can relate to the fear of looking like a boy- you definitely won't though!!!
Do it!! Do it!! I love my pixie and would never have long hair again! :) Just be sure to have a wooly hat this winter - short hair = cold head! LOL!
I could've guessed you'd be an enthusiastic advocate! I've been an admirer of your pixie cut for a while so maybe it's about time I rejoined the ranks! I've been pulling out my extra warm hats these last few days so I'll be ready to go once I've had the chop! ;)
Thanks chick, mind if I hold you to that? ;)
Mine was down to my hips this time last year, before I chopped it off to just above shoulder length. I get bored so easy! I do love having long hair, I love the versatility, I just can't get mine to look great when it's long though so, for now, I'm thinking chopped.
Oooh, same age? I love finding other bloggers my age, I usually feel so much older than everyone else. I've just turned 37 last month, were you close? x
PS I need to introduce you to my friend, Kay's, blog - http://averyenglishgypsy.blogspot.co.uk. She's up in Pontypool and blogs about stuff including her daughter (her first) who's soon to turn 1.
Definitely do it!
I had a pixie cut back in the late 90's too, I loved it and probably would still have it now if I hadn't been for my hairdresser cutting it way too short one time and my mum confusing me (more than once) with my brother! I was dressing like a tom boy back then as femininity was out the baggy unisex clothing was in, so I can't hold it against her too much! I am sure you won't look lie a boy at all, it actually may make you feel more comfortable in girly stuff as short hair kind of balances out the girly (I have no idea if that makes any sense). Anyway go for it, you will look great I am sure of it!! xx
Haha, my Mum still goes through the entire family tree before she gets to me, regardless of hair length! ;)
I think you've hit it bang on the head, I'm hoping the short hair balances out the girly so that I can feel comfortable. Exactly that! And thanks, here's hoping I can get the money together soon! xx
Ooo, exciting hair news! I say do it. I cut my hair fairly short a couple of months ago (more like a bob), but it all grows out so fast, so I might actually join you in the chopping off! ;-) Go for it!
Ooh, we could start a hair cutting revolution amongst the blogosphere! Love it!
Yup, we could. I actually have booked an appointment with my hairdresser for the first week of February. We´ll see what happens! :-)
Please post an update after the appointment, would love to see what you decide! :)
oooh do it! i had a pixie cut about 5 years ago and my mom still says it was her favorite.... sadly not mine, as i have thick wavy hair and it took a lot not to look like a mushroom head every day!! also, glad to find that we're about the same age!
Now, see that's what worries me because I too have thick wavy hair, and the last time I had a pixie cut they had to chop out and thin so much of it to make it work that it was actually quite scary, I thought they were going to make me bald!
Yay for 'older' bloggers! I get a little worried sometimes that everyone I follow is about ten years younger than me and then wonder where I've gone wrong with my life. Good to know I don't have to worry! ;)
