Spotlight: Cardiff

I've lived a few places in my time, in a few different countries too, and I think my absolute favourite city in the world has to be Cardiff. I'm a small town girl at heart, it's why I love living in my little Welsh village so much, but if I have to go to the city then I want it to be like Cardiff. It's such a beautiful place, with fabulous architecture, a castle in the centre, great food, friendly people and everything you could possibly need within reach. An easy drive from either the mountains or a beach (the Bay doesn't count), it really is a great place to live and I'm always happy to show it off to visitors.

Last week my friend, Amy from Canada, arrived to stay for a few days. She's never been to Wales, and despite the building site, lack of hot water, general derision from our London friends, seemed to really enjoy herself. It was a bit of a shock for both of us to realise my house is almost as old as her country, but I guess that's just how things roll in North America. She loved Caerphilly Castle, we had a great afternoon romping around the place despite the rain, and Cardiff was another big hit. We met up with my former neighbour, Anna, for a meal and a drink on Friday, at my favourite place, Henry's. If you're in the area, I do recommend them, I've babbled about them before and eat there as often as I can. I introduced Amy to Pimms, another big hit, and we enjoyed ourselves loudly and laughed the entire evening. Alas, Friday's ffefrynau was lost in a bit of an alcoholic haze and a trip to Cardiff Bay before dropping her back at the bus station to return to London. If you've not visited Wales or Cardiff before, and are in the UK, you really should make the effort (not that I'm biased), it truly is beautiful here.

I was totally looking at Cardiff Uni, but they didn't have the course I wanted, so I can't move there. :(

Though, I'm a city girl at heart. ;)

Okay I must visit Cardiff...it looks great in your pictures. I have only been to the north Wales coast and Snowdonia. Hope to return this summer with the tent if brave enough to take 3 kids! x

Tors

Haha, yes that's my favourite fake coffee drink: decaff mocha with whipped cream on top. Mmmmmm!

Tors

Well, it helped that it was a nice sunny day when I took them! ;) Yes, come visit, I can take you to Henry's! x

That looks very pretty! I've never been to Wales, I'll need to put it on my places-to-visit list. The Victorian Arcades look so nice...

Tors

There's about 5 of them in the city centre, they're so beautiful and full of such interesting shops. If you visit, I'll give you a tour! :)

Katie

I loved Wales and I loved reading your entry on Cardiff. Lovely photos too! :)

Tors

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it here, I want everyone who visits to have a lovely time so that they go home and change everyone's perception on what Wales is like ;)

Fiona

Hi! This is a beautiful tour of a city I'm gutted I've never visited (only ever been to north Wales). I've just found your blog via the Better Blogger Network, and am really glad!
