Rose Red Dancing

Has anyone ever read the story of Rose Red and Snow White? Not that Snow White, the other one. I got nicknamed Rose Red after wearing a red tee to work when I lived in London, it's my favourite colour and I really should make an effort to wear it more often. Since then I've always thought my sister and I could be Rose Red and Snow White, she's fair where I am dark.

When my housemate moved out a couple of months ago, she left her red tulle petticoat. She's 7 months pregnant and won't need it for a while, she thought I'd get more use out of it. I don't have anything to wear it under, but that didn't stop me. If you follow me on Facebook you'll have seen a preview of these photos.

I got the ballet shoes for my bedroom, as wall decoration. Rather coincidentally they're also my size. I mean, if you're going to get pretty dancing shoes to hang on the wall, odds are you're going to want to prance about the house in them on occasion right?* I did ballet when I was four until about four and a half so, y'know, it's been a while. After the tiptoe shot I think it's going to be another twenty odd years before I do that again!

I have a very distinct idea of what I look like held very firmly in my head which, obviously, is nothing like how I actually look. I'm trying to change that picture to reflect the reality, because there's absolutely nothing wrong with the way I look (repeat after me!). I like these two photos because you can see all the tufts of hair I can never control for more than 5 seconds, all my freckles, the Grantham Bugle as it's known in our family and even a scar by my mouth that I never really realised I had. I like all my scars, to my mind they show I've lived. Blusher still isn't my friend though, but perhaps that's because I'm still not sure how to apply it. Something further to work on.

Oh, and don't be alarmed by the redirect if you visit the blog direct, I got myself a domain name! I'm now at girlmeetswolf.co.uk. It took forever to get sorted, apologies for the blog downtime whilst I tried to figure out what I was doing wrong (missing a full stop apparently). Everything's up and running again now but, as always, if anything goes pear shaped please do let me know.

Such a cool petticoat! I'm impressed by you up-on-toes picture. I did ballet from 6 to 7 years old. ;) I vaguely remember Rose Red and Snow White...

Minnado

I love the petticoat, such a great colour and they are lovely photos. I too have never got to grips with blusher. Maybe one day I will understand how to apply it. ;)

These pictures are so beautiful!! Your red petticoat is really nice. It makes a change from black petticoats. Does it have hoops?

Sølvi

ooo, what a lovely post, the petticoat is gorgeous and so are your photos! I love NARS blushers and mineral blushers, it´s all about the amount of pigment and the right brush, if you ask me. And I would probably prance around in ballet shoes if I had a pair as well;-)

Tors

Thanks everyone!

@Popbabe, no unfortunately not ... or perhaps fortunately, I think I'd probably break things if I was wearing a hooped skirts, I'd be knocking in to everything!

@Solvi, I've not heard of NARS, shall have a looksie, thanks!

With your skin tone, red looks fantastic on you! It's also a good colour on me, but I don't wear it that often. I don't normally bother with blusher since my cheeks seemed to be permanently pinkish anyway, so no help from me on that front!

LINDA

Gorgeous! Beautiful! ♥♥♥

these pictures are beautiful - really great shots of the skirt and ballet shoes, you have a really good eye for capturing the nature of the shot! x

Wendy

Stunning!! Simply Stunning! Red is definitely the perfect colour on you! I love the contrast from the wall behind, it reminds me of the one in the Kings speech!

Oh ballet shoes I would never take them off if I owned a pair! I did ballet when I was little too, but had to give it up just before we got our pointe shoes I was totally devastated I just wanted those pretty shooooes!(here began a shoe obsession) It was probably for the best as my Ballet teacher once remarked I had all the grace of a Fairy Elephant:) (this still makes me chuckle)

P.s Thank you for your really lovely comments on my post:) oh and the twiglets are very yummy but difficult to find, there a new old flavour which I was addicted to years ago till they cancelled them! Now there back I think I ave eaten my body weight in them to make up for the years they were gone! x

Clare

Beautiful photos and yes, that is your colour. I remember the Rose Red / Snow White as my sister and I used to 'be' them. I wanted to be Rose Red but because I was paler, I had to be Snow White.
(ps - I'm subscribed to your blog but blogger never tells me when you post. Just checked and saw that I need to catch up!)

Fabulous photos. I too have ballet shoes hanging in my room as decoration! Mine do not fit though - I think they were originally intended as a christmas tree decoration, they're about 3 inches long! I was however recently looking at buying some silk ballet slippers to complete a regency outfit. Now I know what to do with them when not in use... I love the chalky, muted colours and raw finishes in your house, beautiful.

And I know the story, I was always surprised how, considering Snow White is not a common name, there are two of them in Fairy Lore. I borrowed elements of the story when I was writing panto, which was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Rose Red was introduced as Snow White's twin sister - as common and plain and irritating as Snow White was elegant and beautiful and charming. I wrote a lot of myself into RR though and she was still very likeable, mostly because she was bullied rotten by the court jester, winning the audience sympathy and because ironically the actress was adorable, I had to keep asking her to "act plainer"! Its very strange writing panto, political correctness and the womens liberation movement goes out the window...

penny for your thoughts ...
